Marla Morgan, M.A., ANP

Marla Morgan completed her Master’s of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology from Lewis and Clark College with a specialty field of practice in Addictions. Marla is currently pursuing her licensure as a professional counselor (LPC) as well as obtaining credentialing in addiction counseling.

Marla has a background in Trauma Intensive Care Nursing and completed the Mayo Clinic Nurse Anesthesiology residency in 1993. Marla practiced as a nurse anesthetist (CRNA) specializing in neuro anesthesia and has an extensive background in neurophysiology and pharmacology. While working in anesthesia Marla became interested in helping medical and other professionals overcome addictions to alcohol and drugs. Understanding the special needs of anonymity and licensure issues that this population faces she believes an intensive, integrated and individualized treatment approach is necessary and that recovery is as individualized as treatment.

Marla currently facilitates adult and adolescent groups and provides individual counseling services. She specializes in treating addictive behaviors including addiction to drugs, alcohol and process addictions such as compulsive sexual behavior, internet pornography, gambling, gaming and compulsive shopping. In addition, Marla is interested in the relationship between childhood trauma and addiction and believes the correlation is significant.

Marla ascribes to a psychodynamic and attachment theory and works from a strengths-based and solution focused perspective. She believes we all have the answers within and that trauma, addiction and other life stressors keep people from knowing their strengths and being able to move forward in a positive frame of mind. Marla believes a client centered approach is vital and uses Motivational Interviewing and Gestalt techniques along with Cognitive and Dialectical behavioral therapy to collaborate with the client to uncover his or her true and authentic self.
